Theory of Notions
Michael Shemchuk
February 15th – March 31st, 2018
Artist Reception: Friday, March 2nd, 6-8 PM
Bryant Street Gallery is pleased to present Theory of Notions, a Michael Shemchuk exhibition for February and March 2018. His distinctly edgy style utilizes layers of paper and paint to achieve a final surface that is at once boldly graphic and finely nuanced. The exhibition opens February 15th with the artist’s reception on March 2nd from 6-8 pm.
Notion is defined by, “a general understanding; vague or imperfect conception or idea of something.” Michael Shemchuk’s work is a chronicle of his process; putting on and taking off different paper sources and paint swatches without a clear heading until it all comes together. Each piece is a combination of his artistic notions while in development; quick thoughts and images put down on panel again and again until it became art.
Michael Shemchuk has been exhibiting professionally for over 15 years. Theory of Notions will be on exhibit from February 15th to March 31st, 2018 at Bryant Street Gallery, 532 Bryant St, Palo Alto, CA. The artist will be in attendance of the opening reception, Friday March 2nd from 6-8 pm.
