The Tides of March

Bryant Street Gallery is pleased to present The Tides of March, a water-themed group show featuring an all-star lady line up of Alicia Armstrong, Suzy Barnard, and Thea Schrack. With each artist displaying their unique perception of the theme, The Tides of March incorporates saturated colors, washed on layers, and is soaked in reverence for the element that gives us life.

East Coast native, Alicia Armstrong, masks and overlays transparent washes to create hard-edged yet softly shifting images. Her pooling colors and evolving strata speak to the ever-changing environment where the tides kiss the land.

English born, long-time Bay Area resident, Suzy Barnard, builds layer upon layer of color, applied with metal blades and squeegees, to create depth that first hides and then rediscovers the freight ships Barnard has observed over many years of watching the Bay from her Pier 70 studio.

San Francisco based artist and photographer, Thea Schrack, uses slow motion capture and, on occasion, incorporates encaustic paint to create illuminating and abstract prints of ocean waves and horizons. Her works echo the many forms of the sea, witnessed in the active surface of her encaustics, the tranquil shimmer of the Seaglass series, and the vast expanses embraced in her large-scale installations.

Like Venus born from the sea, these artists produce beauty that is all at once pacific and immense. The Tides of March will be on exhibit from March 1st– 31st, 2019 at Bryant Street Gallery, 532 Bryant St, Palo Alto, CA. The opening reception will be held Friday, March 1st from 6-8 pm. The artists will be in attendance.
