ARTIST STATEMENT
When making paintings I begin by referring to a combination of my own photographs, film stills and other found images of different environments. These sources are altered and disassembled as the paintings progress. Many of the familiar elements disintegrate as the paintings develop. Through heightened color and shifts in scale, I am interested in emphasizing the material of paint. While alternating thin washes with layered areas, I am also concerned with creating spaces within the paintings that reside in the area between representation and abstraction.
